The role of place...
Our name, InSite, derives from the importance we give to place in our work. Our work takes place in sites that offer participants new insights about history, policy, and community impact. Our work makes visible the production of space as always-already racialized, gendered, and subject to alienation. Central to the work is an analysis of how historical disparities present in a particular place influence the potential for equity over time. Without understanding the crucial role that place serves in sustaining racism, we cannot ensure equitable outcomes.
Politics of Place is a methodology InSite crafted to orient ourselves and others to the multiple narratives of place through walking and storytelling. We work with organizers and residents to develop a place-based approach to equity and justice. In essence, we treat place as another facilitator in our trainings. To participate, please contact us.
